ALS research group

Devoted to Research on Treatments for ALS

SRG’s focus is on finding a treatment for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, aka ALS or “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”.

We are a new type of ALS research group. We are a “guerrilla biotech”. We are young, small, aggressive, and are the new wave of how science will be done in the future. We can do the same research as large institutions for a fraction of the cost.

ALS is a very difficult disease to research. Because it’s not well-understood, large commercial pharmaceutical companies don’t want to risk reducing profit margins to do the hard scientific research. We can do quality scientific research for comparatively very little money because we don’t spend any on brick-and-mortar infrastructure. We exist mainly in cyberspace, preferring to channel the vast majority of our capital toward research. For-hire labs are available to conduct many of the operations required for research such as microscopic tissue examination. Because sophisticated research tools previously available only to large companies are now available at consumer pricing, we can also leverage the growing “biohacker” movement to conduct investigations.

Our decentralized infrastructure allows us to conduct quality research on a very small budget. It also allows us to have a geographically-diverse collaborative structure, benefitting from the best minds wherever they are at the time. And because we are funded by public donations, the results of our research will be made available freely to the public.
